How enki works

  • Not a job spec. Just where the business is at, what’s changing, and what’s missing in finance. We’ll help you work out the right level of support (FC, FD, CFO, etc), roughly how many days per week makes sense, and whether fractional is the right fit at this stage.

  • Once the role is clear, it’s shared only with our vetted community of fractional finance leaders. There are no job boards and no open applications.

If someone applies, they do so deliberately. They write a short note (around 100 words) on why they’re a good fit and confirm that the day rate and start date work for them.

  • For each applicant, you get access to their enki profile before you speak to anyone. This includes their CV, background and specialisms, a short summary of their top achievements, and how they typically work in fractional roles.

  • Most teams meet two or three people. Some teams move forward, and some pause or adjust the scope. Both are fine - enki is completely free to try.

  • Once you’ve chosen someone, they usually start within weeks. The scope can flex over time, with more support when things get complex, less when they don’t. There’s no long-term commitment and no pressure to fill a role for the sake of it.

  • We charge a 17.5% fee on top of the fractional’s agreed day rate.

When does a fractional finance hire make sense?

The basics start slipping

Month-end gets late. Invoicing, payroll, and expenses start to feel messy. Reporting exists, but isn’t trustworthy.

This is usually when a Finance Manager or Financial Controller makes sense.

Decisions feel hard

Forecasting gets murky. Budgets go stale fast. Unit economics and pricing aren’t clear enough to hire, invest, or plan with confidence.

This is where an experienced Finance Director can add structure.

A raise or expansion is happening

Investor questions get sharper. Reporting cadence matters. New entities, markets, or regulation introduce pressure - and the CEO needs a proper finance partner.

This is typically CFO-level support.

There’s a gap, or high-stakes moment

A finance leader is leaving, there’s a gap before a permanent hire, or an audit / acquisition is approaching.

Interim or transitional finance leadership works well here.

If you need finance support at any level, without the full-time hire:

Start with a fractional role from as little as 1 day per month.
